A court in Salem district on Tuesday ordered Attur police to file a FIR against an RDO for attempting to sexually abuse a woman, who met him for getting ‘patta’ for her land.
Buvaneshwari, 35, wife of Senthil Kumar from Gandhipuram had approached the Taluk office in Attur in 2015 to get patta for her land. Since there was no action taken on her petition, she moved to the HC in the same year, which directed the revenue department to issue ‘patta’ within eight weeks.
In April, 2016, Revenue Divisional Officer M Selvan summoned the woman to his office for an enquiry. He then locked the door and allegedly made sexual advances, however, Buvaneshwari managed to escape by raising an alarm. Once again, when she visited the RDO, he had tried to abuse her sexually.
Despite repeated petitions to revenue and police officials by the Buvaneshwari, there was no action. Following this, she moved to the Judicial Magistrate Court I on 17 October, 2018, demanding action against the RDO for attempting to sexually exploit her.
On hearing the case, magistrate issued an order to Attur police to file a FIR against RDO M Selvan within 24 hours of receiving the order and directed police to submit the FIR in the court.
