KKNPP: Russia ships equipment for Unit 4
Atomenergomash, a machine-building division of Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, has shipped out a set of equipment for Unit-4 of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) being set up in Thoothukudi district.
Chennai
The equipment included Moisture Separator Reheaters (MSR-1000-1), a Rosatom release said here on Friday. “Totally, there will be four sets of Moisture Separator Reheaters of which two sets have already been shipped,” it said.
Having a life span of 30 years, the Moisture Separator Reheaters, manufactured by ZiO-Podolsk, a subsidiary of Atomenergomash, have been designed to remove water condensed from the process stream to maximize thermal efficiency and reliability of the low pressure turbine.
The weight of the separators was 47 tonnes. The height was around six metres and diameter was four metres. The Koodankulam Nuclear Power Plant was jointly constructed by Rosatom and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL).
Atomenergomash was the supplier of the main equipment for the reactor and turbine islands. The design and construction work on the site were being performed by ASE Group of Companies, an engineering division of Rosatom. The KKNPP Unit-1 was synchronised with the southern power grid in October 2013 and the Unit 2 was grid-connected in August 2016.
Rosatom brings together over 300 enterprises and organisations, including the world’s only nuclear icebreaker fleet, and has the world’s largest portfolio of nuclear power plant construction projects abroad (36 nuclear power plants units in 12 countries).
