Chennai leads in property registration
The jump in revenue recorded by the State Registration Department came on the back of substantial rise in revenue from the Chennai Zone, which recorded nearly 25 per cent increase in revenue in April-September period, the first half of the present financial year.

Of the 9 zones in the registration department, Chennai zone alone generated Rs 2,364.60 crore, which is Rs. 447.52 crore higher than the same period in the previous fiscal.
In comparison, the department generated Rs 7,007.74 crore in the whole 2016-17 financial year, which went up to Rs 9,121.53 crore in 2017-18. Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai Corporation issued around 3,600 plan approvals during the first half of 2018-2019.
“We have received around 4,800 applications seeking building plan approval till September and issued 3,600 approvals,” a Chennai Corporation official said.
The Corporation issues approvals for residential buildings with stilt plus 2 floors or ground floor plus first floor with 6 dwelling units up to a height of 9 meters, and also for commercial buildings with stilt plus 2 floors or ground floor plus first floor with 6 dwelling units up to a height of 9 meters with 300sqm built-up-area.
The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has issued 317 building plan approvals till October 15 in 2018. Of them, 197 are special buildings. During 2017, 549 permissions were issued, according to CMDA.
