Thoothukudi firing: CBI inquires deputy tahsildar
Deputy Tahsildar Sekar at Thoothukudi collectorate was inquired by the CBI team, which launched its probe into the police firing during the anti-Sterlite rally on May 22, on Monday, the second day of investigation.

The CBI team, led by Superintendent of Police Saravanan, after the inquiry with the revenue official, visited the house of J Snowlin (8), one of the victims killed during the firing. The team spent some time in the house located at Mini Sahayapuram, Thoothukudi.
The rally organised by the Anti-Sterlite Movement on May 22, in which thousands participated, turned violent claiming the lives of 13 persons. It also left several others injured, while attempting to control the crowd that went ahead and reached the Collectorate after defying the police, sources added.
The grief stricken mother of Snowlin, sought the government authorities to bring out truth behind the killing of her daughter. She said that her family took part in the rally only to submit petition seeking closure of Sterlite.
“We would not have participated in the rally, if we knew about the firing. To bring a solution to the problem concerning the plant, we took part in the rally. But, it was unfortunate that I had lost my daughter,” she said.
“Many agencies had inquired about such incidents, but the truth is yet to come out. Many of my neighbours are asking me as to who killed Snowlin. I believe in God and am hopeful that the guilty will be punished. The identities of those indulged in killing the protesters need to be revealed. Such a tragic incident should not occur anytime in future,” she added.
