“When crude oil prices dropped to 44 dollars a few years ago, fuel prices weren’t slashed. In the last five years, the crude oil prices have increased due to which the government earns an annual revenue of Rs 4.5 lakh crore through fuel sales. But the benefits accrued due to increased revenues weren’t passed onto the people,” Kamal said, while addressing a public meeting in Namakkal district.

Stating that people should start to question the government, he said, “I believe a revolution has already begun. It should be done without violence and in a truthful manner”.

Kamal also dropped hints on continuing his film career despite taking a plunge into politics.

“Many question me for continuing to act in films even after entering politics. I wish to know if those who ask me are full-time politicians. If someone is into full-time politics without having other resources, then he would have to rely on people’s money for expenses. Even politicians should have other businesses to meet out financial requirements,” he said.

The MNM president also encouraged educated youngsters to enter politics. “Educated youth should never shy away from politics. Never exercise your voting rights by taking money.

If you stop selling your votes, then you can demand your rights from the government,” he said.  Later, while addressing exporters and entrepreneurs, Kamal faulted both the State and Centre for taking decisions without consulting or respecting the concerns of people.

“Such mindless act of the government has resulted in incidents like the Thoothukudi police firing,” he said.

    AIADMK, BJP criticises Kamal

Meanwhile, Kamal has been criticised by several ministers and BJP leaders for his recent political speech in a college, which saw him take on the government.

“Kamal Haasan should stop using educational institutions as his political ground to spread his ideologies. He must allow students to study,” said State BJP president Tamilisai Soundarajan in Chennai.

While delivering his address to the students, Kamal had criticised the State government and said there was severe water scarcity in TN. Taking exception to those remarks, Minister for Co-operation Sellur K Raju said, “Kamal Haasan will disappear like a air at the time of elections. He does not have a party structure nor an ideology. Even his supporters cannot understand what he speaks. Kamal should first look after his family and then should comment on the affairs of the State”.

Stating that there was no water scarcity in TN, Revenue Minister R B Udhayakumar said the MNM president should speak with proof.
