Is Ponnaiyan DVAC spokesman, questions Stalin
Reiterating that the Governor should sack Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, who is embroiled in the highway tender allocation scam, Leader of Opposition MK Stalin on Saturday condemned AIADMK organising secretary C Ponnaiyan for announcing that the DVAC would move an appeal against the Madras High Court order transferring the case probe to the CBI.

The High Court had dismissed the submission of the state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing and transferred the probe against the Chief Minister to the CBI. Shortly after the verdict hit the headlines, Ponnaiyan informed the media that the DVAC would go on appeal against the High Court order against the Chief Minister.
“In answering the DMK’s charges through Ponnaiyan, Palaniswami, who is pitiably clinging on to power, has confirmed that the charges against him are true and he has no answers for the same,” Stalin remarked, adding that the HC order has exposed that independence and autonomy of bodies like DVAC and office of chief vigilance commissioner were compromised in the AIADMK regime.
It was evidence from Ponnaiyan’s statement that DVAC and CVC were under the direct control of the AIADMK, the DMK president said, taking exception to the AIADMK organising secretary’s statement close on the heels of the HC ordering the transfer of case files to the CBI. Seeking to know how the AIADMK organising secretary could comment on the appeal petition of the DVAC, the LoP said that it was shameful that the AIADMK headquarters would call the shots on the corruption cases pending against the CM and his ministers in future.
Opining that the AIADMK and the Chief Minister do not deserve to preach about the independence and autonomy of DVAC and CVC, Stalin said that Palaniswami has lost the moral responsibility to continue in the office of the Chief Minister and every minute he continues in the office it would be detrimental to the interest of the state and its people. Stalin also suggested that the Governor should dismiss Palaniswami if he refuses to step down.
