Model paper to guide Class 11, 12 students

In a bid to guide the higher secondary students across the state who take their board exams in the new format for the first time, the Tamil Nadu State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has come up with model question papers for Classes 11 and 12.

The move from the Council came after the Tamil Nadu government’s recent policy decision on reducing the maximum marks for higher secondary board examination from 1,200 to 600, in order to reduce the examination stress of students, besides reducing the number of papers for language subjects from two to one.

The new measure is expected to benefit especially the Class 11 students as they are facing new syllabus from this year.

As the teachers and the students would not have any clue about the question paper format of the new curriculum, they can follow the pattern of the model questions prepared by the SCERT.

The model question papers will be available for both general stream and vocational courses for Classes 11 and 12.

A senior SCERT official told DT Next on Wednesday that the question papers were prepared by a team of experts comprising teachers and academicians. “More than a hundred teachers and experts prepared the question papers, which gives a broad idea for the students to approach board exams”, he added.

The official said that the question papers will also be available for students who study minority and foreign languages such as Arabic, French, German, Hindi, Malayalam, Sanskrit, Urdu and Kannada.

“Question papers will be available for 25 subjects in general stream and 12 subjects of the vocational stream,” he said, adding that students could download it from the SCERT portal.

The official further pointed out that the question papers will be available for both Tamil and English medium students. “In future, the SCERT is planning to bring out videos, where a teacher will be explaining the answers for the model question paper,” he added.
