FIITJEE honours NTSE toppers with cash award
The National Talent Search Exam (NTSE), a talent-based evaluation system scientifically designed for Class 10 students, was recently conducted.
Chennai
NTSE is one of the oldest and most acclaimed competitive exams in the country. This is mainly because over 12-14 lakh students from 36 regions (29 states and 7 UTs) appear for the exam. In the end, only 1,000 students are selected for the scholarship.Â
This means that only about 0.06 per cent of the students make it through, which shows how difficult it is to crack NTSE. More than the scholarship amount, the prestige associated with NTSE is something that can never be matched with any other scholarship.
In Tamil Nadu, out of total 54 students selected in general category, 40 trained at FIITJEE, including the State topper Aditya C. He had obtained 183 out of 197 in the exam. Topping the nation-wide chart is L Gokulnath, also from FIITJEE, with 186 marks out of 197. FIITJEE had presented a cash award of Rs 20,000 to students, who secured the top positions in the State.
NTSE occurs in two stages. The first stage usually conducted by the Tamil Nadu government was held last November. Students who were selected in the first stage appeared for the second stage of NTSE conducted by NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) on May 13. FIITJEE achieved good results in the NTSE stage II 2017- 2018 exams. A total of 401 FIITJEE students, out of 787 selections in general category from across the country have been awarded with NTSE scholarship. FIITJEE is scheduled to conduct the Big Bang Edge Test, a National Level Admission test on October 14. FIITJEE staff say it is a key that will open a world full of opportunities for the students presently studying in Class 5-11.
