Government school buildings to be repaired before monsoon
Tamil Nadu government has started repair of government school buildings across the State based on the report submitted by a special committee, ith northeast monsoon just around the corner.

The committee, constituted by the School Education Department recently, had found that about 1,000 government school buildings require immediate attention before the rainy season. A senior official from School Education Department said repair works have started at the schools identified by the committee.
The committee comprised representatives from the PWD, the Fire and Rescue Services Department, the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) and the Health Department. It was instructed to look into rain-affected classrooms and also ensure proper electrical connections to avoid electrocution. Power utility officials would remove the low hanging wires from school campuses, he added.
“Adequate light facilities will also be provided to the classrooms by installing extra lamps,” the official pointed out. He said private companies were selected through tender process to construct compound walls in schools situated on busy roads for ensuring safety.
Stating that the Health department officials would check the quality of drinking water facilities available at these schools, the official added, “They will also ensure that fogging (to control mosquitoes) is being done once in a week, especially during the rainy season.”
Also, schools were instructed to close wells and septic tanks for ensuring safety of students.
After completing all the works, the committee will submit its report to the department, the official said.
