All arrangements in place to tackle red alert, says Tiruchy Collector
Collector K Rajamani said that the district administration was fully prepared to tackle the red alert that has been sounded by IMD for the state.

Talking to news persons here on Friday, Rajamani explained in detail the rain-preparedness of the district administration and said that they have identified 154 flood vulnerable areas and have formed four-member 74 inter-departmental teams to keep a constant watch on the situation in different parts of the district.
As many as 1,540 youngsters, who were trained for rescue operations, have been placed on stand-by to tackle any eventuality.
In the wake of the red alert sounded by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Tamil Nadu on October 7, the Tiruchy district administration has initiated several precautionary measures across the region to handle any emergency and ensure safety of the people.
Elaborating on the preparatory works, Rajamani said, “We have identified adequate number of shelters at vulnerable areas to relocate the residents in case of emergency. These shelters are mostly government, private schools and marriage halls.”
The 154 vulnerable areas were identified were based on data from the past 15 years during monsoon seasons. They were also worst affected during the unprecedented floods in 2005. These vulnerable areas have been categorised into four categories like very high, high, medium and low.
The collector appealed the people to contact on the toll-free number 1077 and landline number 0431-2418995 in case of any emergency.
The district administration has instructed the city corporation, revenue, PWD, fire safety and rescue, highways and rural development officials to work hand in hand to ensure safety of residents.
Meanwhile, the district collector assured that the temporary structure made in Mukkombu would certainly withstand any volume of flow at least for two months.
