The Government Hospital (GH) in Cuddalore has been selected as the cleanest hospital in the State by the Central Quality Supervisory Committee.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday honoured 13 Government Hospitals in the State, selected for offering best medical services, with a cash prize.

He also honoured four GHs chosen for the ‘Kayakalp’ award by the Union Health Ministry. Along with the cash prize, certificates and shields were handed over to the respective deans of GHs.

The Central Quality Supervisory Committee is entrusted with the work of identifying the GHs providing quality health care. For that purpose, the committee carries out inspection in the hospitals. The committee interacts with patients about the quality of services provided under various categories and based on the results the best GHs are given Rs 10,000 per bed and the primary health centres are given Rs 3 lakh per hospital.

A three-member committee visited Tamil Nadu in May this year and inspected seven district headquarters hospital and six primary health centres.

At the end of the inspection, the Cuddalore GH was selected the best GH in the State in terms of cleanliness and preventing the spread of communicable diseases.

Manapparai GH in Tiruchy bagged the second place. Arupukkottai GH bagged the best GH award among Taluk hospitals. The primary health centre at Mookaiyur in Villupuram district bagged the best primary health centre award. All the four hospitals received the Kayakalp Award.
