The rebel AIADMK MLA, who was released on bail, also said that he will not be cowed down by the number of cases, which according to him are fabricated.
When asked whether he was having any video documents on what happened in Koovathur resort, the MLA failed to reveal further details. “The top police officials are foisting cases against me as the state government wants to jail me,” Karunas alleged. “I will not fear for such police actions. I will continue to work for the development of my caste,” the MLA added.
Karunas, who heads the Mukkulathor Pulipadai, a caste outfit contested on the Two Leaves symbol of the AIADMK. The sulking MLA from Ramanathapuram district was charged by the police under IPC for criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity and disharmony. In his recent speech at Valluvarkottam Karunas made derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and was arrested after the visuals of his controversial speech went viral.
“I am the one who showed the resort and advised that it is the best place, where no MLAs can escape as it is surrounded by sea,” Karunas had said.
Following the arrest of Karunas, DMK leader MK Stalin wondered why the law that arrested Karunas for the controversial speech was not applicable for BJP leader H Raja, who also ridiculed the state police and the government as corrupt.
MLA walks out of Vellore prison on bail
Mukkulathor Pulipadai leader and Tiruvadanai MLA Karunas, incarcerated in the Vellore Central Prison over his alleged defamatory remarks against Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and other officials, was released on bail on Saturday.
Interacting with the media as soon as he stepped out, he said that he was willing to face even 1,000 cases as he stood for the glory and sustenance of the Mukkulathor community which he represented.
Claiming that false cases had been foisted on him, he said the bail was evidence that he was not in the wrong. He said he was forced to interact with the media outside, in pubic, as he was not permitted to speak about the killing of Thoothukudi residents by the police in the Sterlite agitation, inside the Assembly. “False cases were foisted on me only for this reason,” he said.
He said it was strange that instead of acting on his complaint against corrupt officials, the government ganged up against him by foisting cases.
