Chetpet Tahsildar hurt in accident during sand raid

Though it was reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, Chetpet police are investigating. Tahsidlar M Haridas, who acted tough against illegal mining of sand from the Cheyyar river, used to conduct surprise checks frequently in the river areas that fall under his jurisdiction.  When he was going on one such rounds on Saturday morning in his official vehicle, the driver lost control resulting in the vehicle capsizing into a ditch close to the road at Anadimangalam on Chetpet Road. The injured Haridas has been admitted to a private hospital in Chennai for further treatment while investigations are underway. The incident created ripples as the Viralimalai tahsildar was also killed in an accident on the same day.
