Trees uprooted as rain pounds Coimbatore
After a dry spell, heavy rain lashed Coimbatore all through the night on Sunday and on Monday evening.

The torrential rain uprooted trees and snapped electric lines in many residential areas. The impact was felt more in Saravanampatty, Perianaickenpalayam and Annur areas on the outskirts.
Branches of a tree broke and fell on power lines resulting in power disruption in Saravanampatty during the night. Similarly, a tree was uprooted on Anaikatty road resulting in traffic disruption. The sky which remained cloudy since the morning opened up in the evening.Â
Traffic almost came to a standstill in many parts of the city due to flooded roads. Waterlogging under Avinashi Road flyover, North Coimbatore flyover and Kikani underpass led to severe traffic snarls.Â
The weather forecast has predicted more rain for Coimbatore on Tuesday as well.
