Valathur firka to be attached to Gudiyattam taluk shortly
The two-year-old battle of Valathur firka residents over the demand to attach their area with Gudiyattam taluk, has finally borne fruit with KV Kuppam MLA G Loganthan announcing that a Government Order would be passed “shortly” in this regard.
Vellore
Pernambut taluk was created in 2016 by merging Perenambut, Melpatti and Valathur firkas, which were originally under Gudiyattam taluk, in a bid to ensure easy access to people and for better revenue administration.
However, the move turned out to be a bugbear for Valathur firka residents as they were forced to travel nearly 18km to reach the Pernambut taluk office transverse to travelling a few kilometres to the taluk office at Gudiyattam. Adding to this, seven revenue villages in Gudiyattam assembly constituency and another 12 in KV Kuppam assembly segment were also attached to the new taluk. This resulted in a prolonged and futile agitation, though petitions were also submitted to collector SA Raman, the state government and MLA Loganathan.
Speaking to DTNext, MLA Loganathan said, “I raised the issue in the assembly highlighting the grievances of the public and conveyed the same to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Revenue Minister RB Udayakumar and local minister KC Veeramani.”
In the same way, Mordana revenue village, which was previously attached to Pernambut taluk, will also be reattached to Gudiyattam taluk like before.
