Tamil Nadu CM prides himself as farmer, slams DMK for 'family politics'

Chief Minister K Palaniswami lashed out at DMK for "family, dynastic politics," saying only those belonging to late leader M Karunanidhi's family could reach the top, unlike in the ruling AIADMK.

"DMK is a party for a family. Karunanidhi was there and after him now Stalin (as party chief) and then there will be his son Udayanidhi and his son later...so in DMK there is dynastic politics," he said, addressing a meet to accord him a reception by the party unit here.

However, in the AIADMK those who worked for the party and the people held high positons, he said.

"I was born in a agricultural family..only in the AIADMK, can an ordinary farmer become Chief Minister..even you can occupy such positions..it is possible only in this party," he said.

Palaniswami, the AIADMK co-coordinator, sought to know if anybody in the DMK could aspire for the top posts though they had slogged for the party for years.

"It is not possible in the DMK because of dynastic politics..they want positions for grandson, son and daughter and it is still prevalent," he said.

Hitting out at former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, he said the late DMK patriarch had gone to Delhi only to lobby for positions for his family and not to fight for people's issues.

"If Karunanidhi was like that, his son too is just the same."

Karunanidhi had been criticised for lobbying for berths in the Union Cabinet for his family like grandnephew Dayanidhi Maran and his son M K Alagiri during the Congress led UPA regime.

Countering the corruption charges against his regime, the Chief Minister said the DMK was each day "uttering a lie, claiming corruption."

It was "DMK which is a corrupt party and dismissed for corruption in the whole of India."

Following graft allegations, the DMK regime was dismissed in 1976 during the Emergency.

Seeking a repeat of the thumping victory of 2014 Lok Sabha polls when AIADMK won 37 of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, he said it waws only due to such a spectacular victory that the party was able to get projects for Tamil Nadu from the Centre.
