Advocate General summons H Raja to appear on Oct 3
Even as a bench of the Madras High Court had suo motu taken cognisance and issued statutory notice to BJP’s national secretary H Raja for his derogatory remarks against the judiciary, Tamil Nadu’s Advocate General Vijay Narayan on Tuesday issued another notice directing Raja to appear before him on October 3.
Chennai
The notice is based on a contempt application moved by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) under section 15(1)(b) of the Contempt of Courts Act 1971.
In their contempt application, the TPDK, while narrating the conversation of H Raja, with the police submitted that Raja with an intention scandalised and lowered the authority of the High Court which amounts to criminal contempt.
Stating that any act which hinders or impairs the judicial proceedings and interferes with the administration of justice constitutes contempt of court, the petitioner submitted that in the present case H Raja in an indecent manner scandalously called the order of the High Court as equal to his withered hair which lowers the dignity and integrity of the High Court.
It may be noted that this is the second contempt application before the Advocate General.
Earlier, a contempt application was moved against disqualified AIADMK MLA Thanga Thamizh Selvan for his alleged comments against the then first bench which delivered a split verdict in the 18 MLAs’ disqualification case.
