Power outage proof of Thangamani’s inefficiency: Stalin
Leader of Opposition MK Stalin on Tuesday blamed Electricity Minister P Thangamani for his inefficiency in managing power supplies. He charged that the minister had issued oral orders to officials for enforcing unscheduled power cuts, to overcome the demand-supply mismatch in the state.

Stalin further alleged that the State is facing this power outage because of the corruption in TANGEDCO.
Claiming that the State’s daily power demand was 13,260 MW, against the production of 10,000 MW, Stalin said that administrative paralysis resulted in the stagnation of power generation, resulting in TANGEDCO suffering power deficit to the extent of 1,500 MW even after purchasing 1,600 MW.
Stating that TANGEDCO under minister Thangamani was reeling under controversies and scams, the LoP alleged that irregularities to the tune of over Rs 1 lakh crore was committed in purchase of power from private firms by the corporation. “It has also suffered loss to the tune of Rs 12,250 crore in purchase of substandard coal besides procurement of electronic meters.”
He further cautioned that the State would face severe power outage soon. He also claimed that the minister only issued oral orders on the pretext of holding a review a few days ago. Stalin urged the minister to stop enforcing unscheduled power outage and concentrate on resolving fund crunch in TANGEDCO and improving power generation.
