Forest officials identified the injured as Govindasamy (55), Kuppusamy (50) of Mordana near Gudiyattam, Gajendran (45) of Jalagampalli village in Pernambut and Thangavelu (42).Â
Wild elephants from the forests on Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border used to enter the nearby villages in search of food and water. During their hunt for food, the jumbos sometimes used to attack the villagers. In a similar encounter on Tuesday, four fishermen, who were proceeding to Mordana reservoir for the day’s work, were confronted by a lone elephant. On seeing the animal, all the four ran for their life. While the elephant chased Govindasamy and attacked him, the other three managed to escape with minor injuries. Residents rushed them to the Gudiyattam GH. Forest officials were camping in the Mordana to drive the elephant back into deep forests, said sources.Â
