Kamal, Yadav talk TN, ryots’ issues
Swaraj India President and former AAP leader Yogendra Yadav on Monday thanked actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan for voicing his support against the former’s detention by the State police.
Chennai
Yadav met with Kamal at the latter’s party office in Chennai. The two leaders are said to have discussed the state of politics and farmers in Tamil Nadu.
Yadav was detained along with other farmers when he was on his way to meet with those affected by the Chennai-Salem eight lane Expressway project. He was prevented from talking to the farmers by the police.
It may be recalled that Kamal had issued a statement following the arrest. Condemning the police action, Kamal stated that such restrictions were akin to the actions of a dictatorship. He added that Yadav should be free to interact with the people without fear of censure by the state.
He said, “A politician from a different State, who has come to learn about the opinions of the farmers of our State, has been arrested. This act is criticisable and condemnable. Preventing opinions from being shared is an act of dictatorship. We need to remind them that India is still a democratic country.”
