Hundreds of interstate passengers were stranded in the western districts as bus services to Kerala and Karnataka were stopped due to the nationwide bandh called by the Congress and opposition parties against the rising fuel prices.

Many passengers, who couldn’t reach Bengaluru from Hosur in Krishnagiri district, coughed up almost triple the normal fare to reach the city bus stand of the neighbouring state.Â
A few private bus operators fleeced the public by charging up to Rs 150 against the normal fare of Rs 50.
The Karnataka government buses were operated till Zuzuvadi and buses from Tamil Nadu were also operated only till the state borders, from where passengers had to walk about two kilometres to reach Karnataka.
Similarly, buses to Kerala from Coimbatore were not operated and there was no bus service from the neighbouring state. The omnibuses from Coimbatore to other states and different parts across the state were also suspended.
