Nalini drops parole plea after Supreme Court order
A day after the Tamil Nadu government said that it supported the release of all the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and that it would take a decision after going through the Supreme Court order, one of the convicts, Nalini, withdrew a case filed in the Madras High Court on Friday.
Vellore
The case pertains to her seeking six month’s parole to be part of her daughter’s wedding ceremony in London.
Her lawyer, V Pughazendi, said that his client took the decision in view of the Supreme Court order.
Nalini and Murugan, her husband, have written to the Home Secretary and another convict Santhan has written to the State government and the TN Governor seeking early release based on the court order, Pughazendi added.
Calling this a victory of sorts, Pughazendi said that Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other political leaders who supported their demand for release should be thanked for the turn of events.
Earlier, Pughazendi had held consultations with both Murugan and Nalini on the matter.
