Travel agent murders parents, ends life over debts in Kovai
A travel agency proprietor allegedly murdered his parents and then committed suicide in their house in Coimbatore over financial issues. Police found their bodies on Monday.
Police said Vairamuthu (28), who runs a firm in Cheran Maanagar, killed his parents, Balamurugan (55), a driver working in a private school, and Lakshmi (47) by slitting their wrist and throat using a knife. Thereafter, he slit his hand and then hung himself from the ceiling fan using a rope.
Before ending his life, Vairamuthu posted a suicide note along with some property documents to his relative living in Tirupur.
Police suspect the incident to have happened on Saturday. They were notified only on Monday around 3 pm after the relative received the courier containing the suicide note.
The relative immediately informed the Coimbatore city police, who rushed to the house at Avarampalayam and found the three family members dead.
Preliminary inquiries by police revealed that Vairamuthu suffered huge financial loss in his business. “He borrowed heavily hoping to recover from the loss. But things didn’t go his way and Vairamuthu couldn’t pay back the loans. Hence, he took the extreme step after killing his parents,” police said.
Police said they are yet to ascertain if his parents showed any resistance when Vairamuthu killed them with a knife. “A post-mortem report will reveal further details,” said a cop. Further inquiries are on.
