Army jawan booked under Pocso Act for threatening Class 12 girl
An army jawan from Pallathur near Katpadi in the district was on Monday booked under the POCSO Act for reportedly harassing a Class 12 girl.
Vellore
The accused identified as Arun Kumar (22), had come home on leave from the army. Arun’s elder brother, Sakthivel (27), was also an army personnel. Days before Arun came to his village, Sakthivel had proposed his love to (name changed), a Class 12 student and had been pestering the girl to accept his request by repeatedly visiting the school. Later, Sakthivel asked Arun to somehow convince the girl to accept his proposal.
As she was not interested, the girl refused to heed Sakthivel’s proposal.
In a bid to help Sakthivel, Arun met Meera and advised her to marry his brother. As the girl stood firm in her decision, he threatened Meera and said that if she failed to do so she will have to face the consequences.
Panicked by this, the girl informed her parents about the activities of Sakthivel and Arun. Subsequently, the girl’s parents lodged a complaint with Katpadi police, who registered a case under the POCSO Act against Arun Kumar and arrested him. Further inquiries are on to book Sakthivel under the same Act.
