Meanwhile, in a statement issued separately, Sengottaiyan appealed for contributions from corporates to develop infrastructure in all government schools in the State.

Pointing out that the State government has allocated Rs 27,205 crore in the budget for school education alone, Sengottaiyan said though huge money has been spent, private partnership can give a boost to the welfare measures undertaken by the government.

“It has been instructed to the concerned authorities to give permission if any organisation is willing to take over any government school,” the minister said.

School Education department sources also said that the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the State government have already established a joint task committee on improving the school education system.

CII members, who represent various corporates, will identify the government schools to improve the infrastructure. The committee, which is led by the principal secretary of the School Education department, will organise periodical meetings in this regard.
