Candidates in several districts were put into trouble with Anna University deciding to discontinue several Post Graduate(PG) part-time courses at regional campuses of various districts including Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirunelveli from this academic year.

Now, students from these districts should come all the way to Chennai for attending these PG courses. Apart from regular students, candidates, who take up higher studies for promotion in the existing office, are also left disappointed.
A recent circular issued by Anna University said that as per the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, the PG part-time programmes conducted at the regional campuses of Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirunelveli, Villupuram and University College of Engineering BIT campus are to be discontinued from the academic year 2018-19.
Accordingly, the discontinued PG ME courses which includes various Applied Electronics, Embedded System, Technology among others. Anna University sources said that the student’s admission to these courses were less last year. “This year also there are only few takers,” a senior staff from the University said. The staff said that All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) order clearly stated that the course could be discontinued, if the admissions are less than 20%.
However, students say it will be difficult for them to go to Chennai to attend classes. “They have discontinued without prior intimation. This course is very important for me to get promotion in my office,” a candidate, working as assistant engineer in TANGEDCO at Tirunelveli district, told DT NEXT.
A part-time Electrical and Electronic Engineering aspirant, said she cannot afford to take long leave and join the course in Chennai.
The students also claimed that though they met Anna University Registrar there was no proper reply with regard to discontinuation of the courses. The candidates also informed that if there was no immediate solution to the issue, they are likely to move the court very soon.
