More shutters in Mokkombu dam damaged

After the collapse of 14 shutters in Mukkombu dam, hi-tech civil engineers were invited from Thoothukudi by the authorities to examine the dam thoroughly.
After the examination, the civil engineers reportedly said that there were few more damages in the Kollidam dam and that there were cracks in the lower platform of the dam.
On August 22, one of the shutters of the Mukkombu dam fell into the water, making a noisy splash. Soon, the adjacent shutters fell into the water one by one. Nearly 90 metre structure of the dam was washed away.

Since Mettur was full owing to the heavy rain in Karnataka, 2.50 lakh cusecs of water reached Mukkombu and 1.75 lakh cusecs of water was released into Kollidam and 65,000 cusecs of water released into the Cauvery.
