Pregnancy row: Madurai medical college dean denies charges

While addressing a press conference at Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, the Dean said, “First of all Yasmin, wife of Navaneetha Krishnan, was not pregnant since the woman underwent family planning operation on October 21, 2013 after having delivered a child through C-section.” The Dean clarified the same, with all documents in hand. The petitioner tampered with medical records and deceived the health staff in the PHC to make false entries in ante natal card.

Yasmin already got married to Abdullah of Munichalai, Madurai in 2008 and she was divorced in January 2018. The PHC village health nurse had mistakenly recorded the case as pregnant after the couple showed that urine pregnancy test on Yasmin in a private clinic was positive. “She was advised to seek further advice and undergo a scan in Madurai Government Hospital after taking blood test in the PHC. However, she did not undergo scan test in the Government Hospital. The medical records showed her last menstrual period was in August, 2017. The last scan report from the private clinic proved that she was not pregnant,” Dr. Maruthupandian said. Citing these, he said departmental action would be taken against the health staff, who mistakenly recorded her pregnancy.
