The ruling AIADMK’s presidium chairman E Madhusudhanan cancelled his scheduled interaction with media persons on Tuesday, an event which sparked speculations over rifts within the party.

Sources close to Madhusudhanan told DT Next that the latter was not on good terms with a senior leader, who is also a current minister in the Edappadi K Palaniswami-led government.
In addition, the just-concluded cooperative society elections in North Chennai has paved the way for a fresh battle between both of them.
Anticipating the trouble, deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam held talks with Madhusudhanan late on Monday evening and pacified him.
On Tuesday, the chief minister, who met Madhusudhanan, advised the presidium chairman to settle the issue amicably as the party will be facing the general elections next year.
Sources said that following the CM’s assurance, Madhusudhanan called off his press conference, which was about to be held around 12 noon. However, Madhusudhanan’s supporters said that their leader will take a “decision” soon if truce is not in the cards.
