Vajpayee’s ashes immersed at six locations in Tamil Nadu
The ashes of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee were immersed on Sunday, simultaneously at six locations in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, Kanniyakumari and Rameswaram.

BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, senior party leader L Ganesan and party colleagues took part in the immersion ceremony at the Elliots beach in Besant Nagar in Chennai.
Similarly, the ashes were immersed in the Vaigai river in Madurai. The urn carrying the ashes of Vajpayee was brought to Madurai in a procession. The vehicle carrying the urn was stopped at several locations, where the public paid their homage to the departed leader.
BJP State secretary R Srinivasan, vice-president S Surendran, women’s wing State president AR Mahalakshmi and senior leader MR Gandhi were present during the immersion function.
In Rameswaram, his ashes were immersed at the Agnitheertham sea around 10.30 am after a procession from the Rameswaram bus stand. The procession was led by BJP national secretary H Raja.
Speaking to media persons, Raja said statues of the former prime minister would be installed in various places across Tamil Nadu.
In Kanniyakumari, the ashes were immersed at ‘Triveni Sangamam’ after the vehicle, which carried the urn, was taken in a procession led by Union Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan.
