Shah’s visit has nothing to do with alliance: TNCC president

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president S Thirunavukkarasar on Saturday downplayed the reported participation of BJP national president Amit Shah in the meeting being organised by its ally the Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on August 30 by stating that his participation would not affect the alliance.

“Several national leaders are participating in the August 30 meeting organised to pay homage to Karunanidhi. Not all participants are a part of the alliance. Some are allies and some are not.

Leaders of many like-minded parties and ideologically oxymoron parties are participating. Likewise, Amit Shah is also participating,” Thirunavukkarasar told media persons after flagging off several truckloads of relief material to flood-hit Kerala.

“I learnt about Amit Shah’s visit through the invitation. I also read the report in which BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has claimed that the BJP national president would not participate,” the State congress chief said.

“I don’t know if Shah is visiting or not. It will not affect Congress. They (DMK) would have invited Shah the same way they invited others. Even if Shah visits he would only speak in praise of Karunanidhi. It will not be related to alliance. His participation does not mean BJP will join or Congress has quit DMK alliance,” Thirunavukkarasar clarified.
