As many as 32 inmates belonging to different countries, including Sri Lanka and Nigeria, are lodged in the special camp for various offenses including over-staying. According to sources, one of the inmates fell ill, following which the remaining inmates reportedly appealed to the officials to create a medical facility. But, the authorities had failed to pay heed to their request.

Agitated over this, a few inmates damaged the gates of the camp on Friday and raised slogans before proceeding towards the main entrance. The prisoners also demanded the authorities to send them to their native countries as their period of incarceration was over. Prison staff held talks with the agitating inmates, following which the latter returned to the camp.

It may be recalled that a similar incident took place a few months back. Four Nigerians identified as Namuki (30) Olampia (45), Patrick (35) and Sijoki (35) were lodged in the special camp for over-stay. Of them, Namuki, Olampia and Patrick had completed their sentence and were waiting to return to their country. However, the prison officials could not get air tickets immediately as no seats were available. On learning that, the Nigerians created trouble at the camp. Later, they were sent to their home country after the completion of the formalities.
