Locals suspecting the activities of a 35-year-old north Indian caught and thrashed him, before handing over to the Vellore north police on Thursday midnight.
Vellore
Police said, residents spotted a man moving in a suspicious manner and closely watching many locked in Thottapalayam. Growing suspicious over his activities, some people of Soalpuri Amman Koil Street intercepted and questioned him. Since the man did not know Tamil, he could not reply to them properly. Angered by this, the public thrashed and handed him over to the police.Â
As he was carrying small rods, residents thought that he had come to the area with a plan to steal valuables from locked houses. Police took him to the station and conducted inquiries.
