Tiruvannamalai sends six lorries, Vellore 8 vehicles of relief materials
Collector KS Kandasamy flagged off six lorries of relief materials to the flood-affected Kerala, on Sunday morning.

The materials, including bread, biscuits, rusks, milk powder, towels, napkins, blankets, batteries, torch lights, rice, dhal, ground nut, glucose packets, complain packets, sugar, soap, candles, medicines and bottled water, all estimated to be around Rs. 63.50 lakh were mobilised from Tiruvannamalai, Cheyyar and Arni revenue divisions.
Kandasamy told DT Next that all items were collected by students, NGOs, altruists and members of the public. The vehicles were flagged off by Kandasamy in the presence of assistant collector M Prathap, DRO P Rathinasamy and Tiruvannamalai RDO S Thangavel.
The materials in the six lorries were despatched for flood victims in Waynad district in Kerala, officials said.Â
Though the rain has subsided, normal life is yet to return to Kerala. So, another round of collection of relief materials is under way in the district and the consignment will be sent in the next few days, sources said.
From Vellore district, eight lorries with relief materials estimated around Rs 1.5 crore were flagged by Collector SR Raman from the collectorate. Similarly, two lorries carrying materials worth around Rs 8.31 lakh were sent by the trader’s association from Gudiyattam.
