Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore international airport, the BJP leader said many districts in Kerala have been affected in floods. “The Chennai flood in 2015 has been man-made due to encroachments on water bodies. The state government should learn its lessons from these past incidents and take steps to clear encroachments from water bodies and also desilt them,” said the BJP leader.

Further, Tamilisai also suggested that an expert committee should be formed to study and prevent water from going waste into the sea.

“Despite over two lakh cusecs of water flowing in river Cauvery, the water hasn’t reached tail-end areas of delta districts. All water bodies in delta districts may have filled, if the state government had promptly desilted canals before releasing water from Mettur Dam for irrigation,” she said.

Tamilisai also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government has been making all-out efforts to help the flood-ravaged Kerala. Later, she flagged off mini trucks laden with relief materials from Coimbatore to flood-affected neighbouring state.
