While slamming the state government for the mass shooting in Thoothukudi, the Madras High Court on Monday transferred the case to CBI.
The judgement was announced by justice CT Selvam, AM Basheer Ahamad who also ruled out the arrest of six protesters who were booked under National Security Act. The Court also stated that the protestors were not informed about the 144 imposition in the district.
On May 22, which was the 100th day of protest against the Sterlite coper smelter in Thoothukudi, as many as 13 people lost their lives after police opened fire.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government moved Supreme Court against NGT's order allowing Vedanta group to have access to administrative block of its closed plant at Thoothukudi.
The Supreme Court will hear the Tamil Nadu government's plea against NGT order on Thoothukudi plant on August 17.
