A twenty-four-year-old girl, Indhu of Therekalpudur in Kanniyakumari district was killed in the accident, which occurred near Thirupathisaram.

Sources said that a TNSTC bus plying from Aralvaimozhi to Nagercoil collided with a vehicle, in which the ill-fated girl was traveling. She succumbed to injuries on the spot.

Subsequently, the bus moved into a coconut grove near by the accident site after the bus driver turned to his right. The driver skillfully averted a major casualty by taking the bus in to the grove. If the bus plunged into a river on the left side, several passengers would have died.

Based on a complaint by a relative of the victim, Aralvaimozhi police have filed a case under Sections 279 and 304 (A) of Indian Penal Code, sources said.

In Dindigul, Kesia Rani (17) of Pallapatti was killed in an accident, which occurred near A Vellodu, which falls under Ambathurai police limits. The victim girl along with Arulgnana Fathima (36), who was a pillion rider, was on her way to church in a two-wheeler when the accident occurred.

Sources said a truck hit the rear end of the vehicle leaving Kesia Rani dead on the spot. However, Arulgnana Fathima, who suffered injuries in the accident, was admitted to Dindigul Government Hospital.

Irked over the killing of the girl, who studied Plus Two in a private matriculation school, the public detained the truck, which was kept on the premises of Ambathurai police station. A case has been filed in connection with the accident and investigation is underway, sources said.
