state police slammed for arresting Thirumurugan

Recalling the order of Saidapet Court which struck down the sedition charges framed against him by the city police, Stalin, in a statement, said the police of the ruling AIADMK did not mend its harsh ways despite the court condemnation. Describing the arrest as a blatant act of revenge, Stalin said the police have revived an old case and arrested him. 

Slapping of sedition charges on people voicing views against the police firing was proof of the fascist mindset of the ruling dispensation, which was trampling the democratic ethos, the Leader of Opposition said . He added that his party condemns the ruling AIADMK, which was engaging cops to stifle free speech instead of resolving issues. He also urged the state to immediately release Thirumurugan Gandhi. The DMK had earlier demanded CBI probe in to the Thoothukudi police firing during the anti-Sterlite protests which claimed 13 lives.  

Meanwhile, DMK working president Stalin got into a huddle with senior leaders at party headquarters Anna Arivalayam ahead of the party executive council meeting here on Tuesday, August 14.

Stalin has also announced Rs 1 crore for flood relief measures to Kerala government on behalf of the party trust. He expressed the party’s condolences to the families of flood victims. “I have just spoken with @CMOKerala to enquire about the flood situation. On behalf of DMK trust, we have made a contribution of INR 1 crore towards #Keralafloodrelief. Our thoughts are with those who are affected by floods and landslides,” Stalin has tweeted.
