Justice CV Karthikeyan before whom the civil suit moved by Pyramid Saimira Productions International claiming that Kamala Haasan owes them 5.44 crore, issued notice and posted the matter for further hearing to Monday.

The petitioner had contended that they had signed a memorandum of understanding with Rajkamal films on April 2, 2008 to produce Marmayogi at an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore.

Following this, Rs 10.90 crore was paid to Rajkamal films in two installments towards the remuneration of Kamal Hassan for acting, directing, and writing the story, screenplay and dialogue of the film. The actor had acknowledged the same through a letter dated September 25, 2008. But thereafter, Kamal Hassan ignored the agreement and instead diverted the money paid to him for release of another film Unnaipol Oruvan.

But though its release was stalled by filing a recovery suit, the court subsequently allowed the film’s release after obtaining a bank guarantee and the suit was in the trial stage, the petitioner submitted.

Further, citing inquiries which reveal that Kamal Hassan is heavily indebted to various creditors, having borrowed huge amounts from various persons to meet the production expenses of Vishwaroopam 2, the plea said, “Unable to repay any of the creditors, Kamal Hassan is planning to release the film through Aascar films so as to defeat, delay and defraud his creditors including ourselves.”

The petitioner as an interim relief, sought the court to pass an injunction restraining Kamal Hassan from releasing Vishwaroopam, pending disposal of the suit.
