    Provisional allotment for 6,700 engineering students

    As the online counselling for engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu completed six days on Monday, provisional allotment was made to about 6,700 candidates.

     A total of eligible 10,734 candidates, who secured up to 190 marks in the merit list participated in first round of counselling, which began on July 25.

    Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission 2018, (TNEA) Secretary Dr V Rhymend Uthariaraj said, of the 10,734 students who sought admission online, only 7,347 completed the payment procedure to participate in the counselling. He said that only 7,303 candidates entered the choice of course and colleges. According to the TNEA secretary, the provisional allotment was granted to 6,758 students.

    Sources from Anna University said that a majority of the students who attended the first round counselling opted for Computer Science and Electronics and Communication.

    However, Keerthana Ravi, who topped the merit list, got admission at a college in Delhi to pursue BSc in Chemistry. Likewise, S Ritvik, who stood second, got a medical seat at a government college in Tirunelveli.  Srivarshini R, who was third in the list, preferred to take up medicine at a private college in Trichy. All the students, who got the provisional allotment will report for admission on August 3.

    Meanwhile, the second round of counselling for the candidates, who scored up to 175 marks in the merit list, started on Monday with most of the students opting for either Computer Science or Electronics and Communication.

    They will be given three days for adding and locking their choices and their tentative allotment date is fixed between August 2 and 3. The publication of final allotment will be on August 4 and the students have to report for admission on August 8.

    Similarly, the counselling for candidates, who scored up to 150, will be held from August 4. Students, who secured the cut-off of 125, will attend the counselling from August 9.

    All the remaining eligible candidates will be attending final round of counselling from August 14.
