Bhavanisagar dam to be opened tomorrow

In a statement issued on Monday, Palaniswami said that the water would be released for 120 days from August 1 to November 28. It would benefit 1.03 lakh acres of farm land in Sathyamangalam, Gopichettipalayam, Bhavani, Perundhurai, Modakurichi and Kodumudi in Erode district, Kangeyam in Tirupur district and Aravakurichi in Karur district. 

Similarly, Cauvery river water from Mettur Dam would also be released to Pullampatti and Puthiyakattalaimettu channels on Wednesday. The water would benefit 42,736 acres in Tiruchy, Thanjavur and Ariyalur districts. 

The water from both the dams would benefit farmers, who had undertaken wetland farming, in the current season said Palaniswami and asked farmers to use water judiciously.
