Child safety workshop held for police in Vellore
A workshop on child safety for Sub-Inspectors and Special Sub-Inspectors drawn from 65 police stations in Vellore district was organised at the Vellore SP’s office on Saturday.

Elumalai, a trainer from Hand in Hand, a NGO, instructed the police personnel to spread the message of ‘differentiating good and bad touch’ among children especially girls, considering the increasing incidents of sexual misconduct which girls faced including from relatives or those whom they knew well.
The participants were told to create awareness of whom to contact when unpleasant incidents occur among school girls and parents in their area.
Elumalai stressed on the importance of the POCSO act under which tough action could be initiated against offenders.
Elumalai also spoke about the visible changes in the mindset of victims and how to respond when such signs become visible.
Vellore SP P Pagalavan, R Venketraman, Chief Manager of Hand in Hand, District Social Welfare Officer Shanthi, Child Welfare Committee president Kalpana and District Child Protection Officer Nishanthini participated in the workshop.
