Seeking the withdrawal of central codes and enactment of comprehensive legislation for domestic workers, the groups would present a petition to the Union Labour Minister as well as to the Petitions Committee of Lok Sabha.

State convener M Valarmathi said that the NPDW has been stressing on the need for a comprehensive legislation for domestic workers, including ‘decent conditions of work’, regulations of work, wages, placement agencies and social security through Tripartite Boards, as well as the ratification of ILO Convention 189 on domestic workers, for more than five years now. She said, “The Government of India on the other hand has decided to repeal all the existing Labour Laws and bring in four Codes which would deprive workers of the existing labour rights.”

“The codes 3 and 4 would not only abolish ESIC and EPFO, but also the sectoral welfare boards like those in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It would also abolish the unorganised welfare boards in various other states,” she further added. Leaders of all Central Trade Unions and Members of Parliament are being expected at the rally which might witness a participation of more than 10,000 members from across the country.
