Bedi helps maid to return from Kuwait
A domestic help hailing from here allegedly faced exploitation in Kuwait and returned home after Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi acted on a petition by the victim’s son in May.

The woman, who had returned from Kuwait last month, and her son, hailing from nearby Karikalambakkam village, called on Kiran Bedi during the daily ‘open house’ programme on Tuesday and thanked her for her help. She also expressed her gratitude to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, whom Bedi had approached, for the assistance extended, an official press release said. “It was a moment of joy for us at Raj Nivas.
This is another touching success story of our open house programme,” the Lieutenant Governor said in the release. The woman had landed with the job of a domestic help in a house in Kuwait in December last year with the help of some agents. However, she found that the work was tedious as she had to work for several hours at a stretch without rest. Thereafter, she had informed her son about her plight. Her son had made a representation during the daily ‘open house’ meeting at the Raj Nivas, seeking Bedi’s help in arranging his mother’s return from Kuwait.
The Lieutenant Governor raised the issue with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the latter ensured that the domestic help returned home last month.
