4-year-old girl faces physical torture from parents, no case filed yet

The Karimedu police came to her rescue based on a tip-off from John Michael, a cadre of Communist Party of India (Marxist). The girl had injuries in her arms and legs, sources said. Her parents were reportedly absconding. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had cigarette burn scars in four places on her person. 

The victim’s father, reportedly addicted to liquor, was alleged to have tortured her. The girl was left in her neighbour’s house by her parents, who were stage artists and were in Aruppukottai. Inquiries were under way to check if the victim was their adopted daughter. 

Sources said the girl would be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for further action. Karimedu police, who launched a search for the victim’s parents, were yet to file a case in connection with the incident.
