Engineering teachers, students to get less time for first semester
As the counselling for the engineering students in Tamil Nadu is delayed this year, the colleges are expected to open only by September. This means that the professors and teaching community would be under pressure to complete the portions of the first semester in a month, as the examinations usually starts by November.

Anna University sources said that the counselling will continue till second week of August and students and the classes are expected to commence for newly admitted students around September first week.
In addition, as students come for new admissions for various undergraduate courses in Anna University and its affiliated colleges across Tamil Nadu, a comprehensive two-week long induction programme has also been planned for fresh candidates.
Dr S Chandravadana, Head of the Department of Mechatronics of Agni College, which is affiliated to Anna University told DT Next that colleges might be instructed to keep classes on week-ends also to cover all the portion before the first semester.
“Definitely there will be pressure on us. In addition, students will also find difficult to cope up with the subjects at short period of time,” she added. Tamil Nadu Federation of University Faculty Association (TANFUFA) convenor Dr R Dhamotharan said the job of the faculty will be difficult when the admissions are delayed.
“Moreover, students, who are fresh out of schools, will be in a different frame of mind and their grasping power will be poor since the teaching method is totally different in the colleges. Therefore, it will be hard time for students to cover all the portions within such a short period,” he added.
According to him, Anna University should instruct the colleges to postpone the examinations so that students will have enough time to study to face the examinations.
S Kathiravan, who has sought admission for engineering seat at Anna University, said anxiety among students in bound to increase if colleges are not opened in time as settling down in the college itself will take about a month.
