VCK warns of protest against expressway
The BJP is looking for political mileage by ‘creating confusion’ in Tamil Nadu politics through I-T raids, alleged VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan. Speaking to reporters in Salem airport on Friday, he said that the Centre is trying to threaten political parties through I-T raids to make them fall in line.

“The sudden raids, targeting those close to Chief Minister is shocking. Is it an attempt to change the CM or to topple the AIADMK government? The BJP is seeking political mileage by creating confusion in the state,” he said.
On the Salem-Chennai Expressway project, Thirumavalavan said, “The project has been conceived by the BJP to extract iron ore from the mineral-rich Kanjamalai. It is not meant to help common people, but only corporate companies. What is the need to lay a road by destroying nature? The CM couldn’t act independently and has been controlled by the Centre,” he said.
Stating that the Expressway has to get the support of at least 60 per cent of the public, he said it is opposed by more than 80 per cent of people. The VCK leader said the state has been implementing the project by forcefully acquiring the land from farmers.
He also threatened to organise a massive protest along with the DMK and other parties, if the project is not scrapped. Thirumavalavan later addressed a protest meet against the Expressway project in Salem district.
