Anees, a nurse at Apollo Hospitals, who was also present in the ambulance on the night of September 22, appeared before the panel. Chamundeeswari is said to have told the Commission that visitors could go into the ICU wearing appropriate protective clothing but that no one opted to do so, instead viewing Jayalalithaa through the glass partition.
There is also conflicting information on when Jayalalithaa was shifted to the emergency room from the ward. Justice Arumughaswamy is also said to have raised the issue of only the regular doctors and nurses on duty on December 4 and 5 though Jayalalithaa’s condition had greatly deteriorated. Anees said that Jaya remained unconscious the entire time from Poes Garden until Apollo. This contradicts the statement of Dr Sivakumar, who said that she asked about her whereabouts at Apollo.
Apollo Hospitals Chairman Dr Prathap Reddy reiterated, “There’s never been any hesitation from our end. We stand by our statement that we provided the best possible treatment. We are open to any scrutiny.”
