    Aavin milk to have 90 days shelf life with its new packaging system

    For the first time in the state, Aavin will distribute processed milk in tetra pack with the help of flexipack filling facility at the Ultra High Treatment (UHT) milk processing plant at Sholinganallur Dairy Farm in Chennai.

    In the UHT milk processing plant, the milk procured from the farmers would be boiled at 139 degrees Celsius to ensure it is zero bacteria milk. Following the procedure, the processed milk would be packed in tetra packs of 200 ml, 500 ml and  one litre. The processed milk has a shelf life of 90 days and the packets need not be preserved in refrigerators. 
    The UHT plant has the capacity to process one lakh litres per day initially and would be expanded in the future to cater the growing needs, said the officials of dairy department. 
    Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated the UHT milk processing plant built at a cost of Rs 34 crore through video conferencing. The department has also decided to replace the existing 17 milk tanker lorries that are functioning for more than 20 years and allotted Rs 4.6 crore to buy 17 new milk tanker lorries. The capacity of the new milk tanker lorries would be 15,000 litres each. 

    Multipurpose indoor stadium 
    Meanwhile, Chief Minister Palaniswami also inaugurated a multipurpose indoor stadium in Melakottaiyur near Vandalur in Chennai at the cost of Rs 16.3 crore. The stadium sports facilities such as library, research centre, conference hall and a meditation hall. 
    Also the state government gave Rs 50 lakh for the International Junior Squash Championship that commenced in Chennai on Tuesday. Palaniswami also inaugurated a new hospital building attached to the Government Hospital in Tiruvannamalai at a cost of Rs 28 crore. 
    The new building has a 200 bed facility attached with an examination hall and a hostel for House Surgeons. The Chief Minister inaugurated District Early Intervention Centres constructed at the cost of Rs 1 crore each in three GHs in Theni, Madurai and Tiruchy. 
    The Early Intervention Centres treat congentive diseases of the newborn children. In Kuthalam GH, post-surgery ward with 36 beds, constructed at the cost of Rs 94 lakh, primary health centres in Reddiyarpatti, in Tirunelveli district, Kumiliyam in Ariyalur district, Gangaikondan in Cuddalore district, Sorakolathur in Tiruvannamalai district were also inaugurated by Palaniswami.
