CPI state secretary R Mutharasan demanded an inquiry under a sitting judge of the Madras High Court and recalled that a section of contractors had placed banners in the city urging the government to reduce the commission demanded from them for awarding the contracts.
There are open allegations that contracts for large amounts are given to the relatives of the Chief Minister who had not denied the allegations. He also cited the raids on firms supplying eggs and seizure of Rs 120 crore and 100 kg gold from one of the contractors, Seyyadurai, who is said to be a benami of the Chief Minister himself.
The CPI leader Mutharasan also demanded an explanation from the Income Tax department about the action taken on the I-T raids conducted in Tamil Nadu so far.
Raising similar demands, PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss said no follow up action had been taken on the I-T raids conducted in Tamil Nadu so far and demanded that an inquiry committee consisting of officials from the CBI, I-T and Enforcement Directorate should be formed to probe the corruption in PWD and Highways departments.
